Glowup
Brief:
Fitness tracking app for Apple Watch

Skills:
Branding, watch interface design
Brief
I was asked to create a healthcare monitoring application for a smart watch that connects to a desktop portal.
Research
Afer rudimentary market research confirmed that pretty much everything I initially came up with has been done before, I decided to go with a unique hyper-feminized “glowup” aid with super glowy UI.
Brand
Glowup is a health goal-setting and progress-monitoring app for younger women wanting to actually enjoy their “glowup.” It’s cute, friendly, and responsive––when you meet your goals, the app “glows” in bright colors, and when you don’t, the glowy interface desaturates.
Iteration
I created low-quality wireframes in Figma to indicate feature placing and used placeholder text to help me visualize user flows.
After wire framing, I took a step back to evaluate the design’s adherence to the brand’s mission. I decided to nix the journal entry feature I’d come up with. While mental health is an important factor in fitness, Glowup leans closer to “Just do it.”
Finalized Design
I then went ahead and finalized the design with real copy, graphics, prototyped animations, and the beautiful glow that captivates Glowup’s mission.
Reflection
I lean towards simplified, modern design that relies heavily on typography, so Glowup was a refreshing change of pace for me. I especially loved working with layers of glow effects and gradients.
I’m also stoked with how the watch layout turned out. I’ve never used an Apple Watch before, so it was great to hear feedback that the design was accessible and easy to use.
All around a great experience!
